Section
8 Home Ownership
The
Section 8 Home Ownership Program helps first time homebuyers to meet their
monthly mortgage and home ownership expenses. A potential purchaser is qualified
through the local public housing agency by meeting particular income and eligibility
requirements.
Monthly
home ownership expenses that are covered by the Section 8 Home Ownership
Program include mortgage principal and interest, mortgage insurance premium, real
estate taxes and homeowner insurance, and utilities. Generally, a family will
contribute 30% of its adjusted monthly income toward the housing. The remainder
of the cost is covered through the housing assistance vouchers.
Housing
Action Council works with Yonkers Municipal Housing
Authority
and Westchester County to
provide counseling to perspective purchasers under their Section 8 Home Ownership
Programs. To date, six households utilizing the Section 8 Home Ownership Program
were assisted by Housing Action Council to become homeowners.
